SA: Candle blamed for house fire

ADELAIDE, Dec 5 AAP - A citronella candle left burning overnight on a plastic outdoor
setting was blamed for igniting a fire at a home at Morphett Vale in Adelaide's south
this morning.

The Country Fire Service said the blaze was reported just before 6.30am (AEST) and
caused about $10,000 damage.

The homeowner and a neighbour tried to put the fire out with a garden hose. Both suffered
smoke inhalation.

The owner was treated at the scene, but the neighbour was taken to nearby Flinders
Medical Centre for further treatment.

Two pet cockatiels in a cage outside the house died as a result of the fire. They died
from smoke inhalation.
