Qld: Man charged with chopping off fingers of music student

A 28-year-old man has been extradited from Sydney to face charges over the mutilation
of a music student's fingers last year.

The career of 20-year-old saxophonist PHIL EVANS was destroyed in July when two men
chopped off three of his fingers during a home invasion in northern Brisbane.

Police extradited one of his alleged attackers to Brisbane yesterday after he had finished
a nine-month sentence for unrelated matters.

He has been charged with torture, grievous bodily harm with intent to maim, serious
assault, deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Police allege that on July the 21st last year, two men entered a house at Herston,
looking for Mr EVANS.

It is alleged they tied up his flatmates and threatened them until Mr Evans returned
from university.

Police allege the 28-year-old man then used an antique knife to chop off Mr Evans' fingers.

The man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
